The Truth About Thread Count

Why Thread Count Isn’t the Whole Story

What really matters when you’re chasing the dream of better sleep?

At Cozytown, we believe true luxury starts with honesty — and when it comes to thread count, there’s a lot of confusion out there. Many people think a higher thread count always means better quality, but that’s only part of the story.

You’ve probably heard that higher thread count equals better sheets. It sounds simple. But the truth, like good sleep, is a little more layered.

So... What Is Thread Count?
Thread count measures the number of threads — both lengthwise (warp) and crosswise (weft) — woven into a single square inch of fabric. In theory, a higher count should mean a denser, more durable weave. But there’s more to the story.

To hit those sky-high numbers you’ll see on flashy packaging, some manufacturers twist multiple threads together before weaving — a shortcut that creates what’s called “multi-ply” yarn. The result? A big number on the label, but a fabric that’s thinner, rougher, and quicker to wear out.

The Cozytown Way: Honest Numbers, Quality Textiles

We use single-ply, long-staple natural cotton — never layered, never fluffed up for show. These stronger, finer threads create a smooth, breathable fabric that lasts beautifully, wash after wash.

Our sheets are crafted in our South Carolina studio with quiet precision and genuine care. We use cotton woven in India from Indian-grown fiber, and Italian-milled fabric spun from California-grown Pima and Supima cotton — some of the softest, strongest cotton on Earth.

Luxury That Lasts
We believe in feel-over-flash — in bedding that balances comfort and durability with a kind of understated beauty. No gimmicks. No inflated numbers. Just timeless quality designed to break in, not wear out.

Care Counts, Too

  • To help your Cozytown bedding stay “just right,” treat it with a little kindness:
  • Wash separately from towels or heavy fabrics
  • Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent
  • Tumble dry low (or line dry, if you’d like a little fresh-air magic)
  • For more care tips, visit our {Laundering Instructions} page.

In the end, we don’t want you to fall for marketing — we want you to fall asleep.
